Japanese is the only LOTE (Language Other Than English) taught at Kariong Mountains High.
Study begins in Year 7 and students can choose to continue through to the end of Year 12. The learning of Japanese enables students to engage more actively in our global community.
Year 7 students at KMHS study Japanese language and culture twice a week.
Topics studied in year 7 Japanese language & culture:
- Introducing yourself
- Anime and Manga
- Sport and Hobbies
Year 8 students do not have Japanese included in their timetable, but from June 2014, a lunchtime “Japanese Anime, Art and Manga” club will be available for interested students of all year groups.
An annual competition, “Art speaks Japanese” hosted by the Japan Foundation, will be available to KMHS students from this year and will be part of the activities for the “Japanese Anime, Art and Manga” club members.
Year 9 and 10
Year 9 and 10 students have the opportunity of continuing their study of Japanese language and culture as one of their three (3) electives. Local excursions are arranged for Year 9 and 10 elective Japanese students to enhance their study of the language and culture.
For example, a visit to a Japanese Restaurant for an authentic Japanese meal, and attending Japanese Film Festivals in Sydney.
Two Japanese courses are offered for students who would like to study it in Year 11 and 12.
This course is for those students who continued studying Japanese as an elective in Years 9 and 10.
This course is for students who did not continue Japanese in Years 9 and 10.
