Kariong Mountains High School has begun its history as a school committed to achieving excellence across all learning endeavours for both the foundation students and those to come in future years. At Kariong Mountains High School we have embedded our school’s motto ‘Unity Knowledge Respect’ into all facets of school life.
From the Principal
2013 saw the first cohort of Kariong Mountains High School students begin their Stage 6 studies. This is a significant milestone in the school’s history as we now have student cohorts in each of the three stages of secondary schooling. This progression in our school’s development also saw the induction of the foundation school captains, Matilda Eder and Bradley Rodrick; roles that provide yet another leadership opportunity for which students can aspire.
2010 was a year of ‘firsts’ and new curricula, such as Biosciences and Computer Technology, and co-curricula activities such as sport, drama and music, were adopted to enhance the learning opportunities for students in this new school setting. Although access to the school at the start of the year was delayed and there were no existing resources, our high expectations and commitment to developing exemplary teaching programs led to pleasing results in NAPLAN, particularly in Numeracy, where above average results were achieved.
Forging strong links with the community was a key focus throughout the year and the establishment of the Ramm Botanicals – KMHS Partnership, leading to the award of a Schools First grant to establish a greenhouse, exemplified what can be achieved when schools and businesses work together for a common purpose.
It is with great pride that I invite you to read Kariong Mountains High Schools’ inaugural
Annual Report. I wish to thank the dedicated staff, community groups, partnership organisations, supportive parents and the community of students whose efforts and belief in our school have contributed to the successful implementation of each new initiative achieved throughout our first year of operation.
