From our Principal
Please pass on the following information to any parents you know, who currently have children in Year 6, and who may be interested in our selective class program for 2019.
Application to enrol in the Kariong Mountains High School’s Year 7 selective class for 2019 opens in May. The selective class is for academic and motivated students who thrive in a creative and rigorous learning environment and who have a positive and persistent approach to their studies.
As students are able to move to higher order thinking more quickly, there are increased opportunities to engage in deeper and more reflective learning, as can be experienced through more time on project based learning and extension activities than in other classes.
Additionally, and importantly, developing the skills of collaboration, creativity and critical thinking are provided in the curriculum.
As Kariong Mountains High School specialises in bioscience and technology, students in the selective stream are accelerated in science and complete a Preliminary Science course at the end of Year 10.
An additional advantage of being in the selective stream at Kariong Mountains High School is that we maintain small class sizes in the senior years in subject areas such as Physics and Extension courses. Your child is not competing for class teacher time against up to 24 students, but is getting specialist support in a class that could have less than 10 students. Our results for the HSC, with students from this class, continue to be high with most students achieving their goals.
Is your child a motivated, high achiever? Do you want a supportive, but challenging learning environment in which they can continue to grow? Then, this is the right place and right school for your child.
The email to obtain an information package is email@example.com. Please note, a minimum academic standard applies to entry into this class.

Yes, this is a repeat from last week and another gentle reminder.

House Points Score as of Wednesday 14 March 2018
As part of the Positive Behaviour for Learning focus, a house points system has been implemented at Kariong Mountain High School. Teachers allocate positive entries on Sentral for student behaviour, attitude to learning and anything positive that students are observed doing in the classroom and around the school. Points have also been allocated for the swimming carnival final result and age champions.
At the end of the year, the house with the most points will participate in a rewards day. Throughout the year, two students who have achieved a positive are randomly selected and awarded a canteen voucher. An update of the house points score will be updated each newsletter from this point forward.
We encourage our students to be positive at all times, to achieve their best and follow the motto of
Unity, Knowledge and Respect.
