From our Relieving Principal
This is another friendly reminder that the School Dentist will be visiting our school during the week commencing 27 November. Students from families eligible for Family Tax Benefit A will be examined for free. Ineligible families can receive the same service for $99 which includes oral examination, teeth clean and fluoride application. Students have been provided with information and consent forms. If our school has 30 or more students take up the offer, a draw for a $200 shopping voucher will take place. I encourage all families to make the most of this opportunity.
Year 9 NESA Trials
Students in Year 9 who did not meet the required level in NAPLAN in Reading, Writing or Numeracy will be undergoing a NESA (NSW Educational Standards Authority) trial for Minimum Standards. It will take place during Week 7 of this term. Information will be forwarded to students in the near future.
Year 11 Reports
Last week I finished reading through the Year 11 reports and was very impressed for several reasons. Firstly, we have a large number of students who are very dedicated to their studies and clearly doing their best with a positive attitude. Secondly, the professionalism of our teachers shone through with their deep understanding of the students in their classes. It is important that students heed the advice of their teachers, set high goals and work hard to achieve them.

HSIE Faculty Update
Busy times for the HSIE faculty, with Year 7 students nearing completion of their first semester studying Geography, our Year 8 History students are studying the ‘Polynesian Expansion Across the Pacific’ topic, with Year 9 and 10 Geography classes engaging with the ‘Sustainable Biomes’ and ‘Australia’s Global Links’ topics respectively. Our Year 9 History students have been learning about Australia’s involvement in World War I and World War II and Year 10 classes have been studying the Holocaust.
During what was the first implementation of the Polynesian topic at KMHS with our Year 8 classes, students have learned about the movement of people in canoes (Wakas) across the Pacific Ocean, the discovery of new islands, Rapa Nui (Easter Island), the Māori culture, traditional Polynesian tattooing, housing and society structures, Pacific Island food and Polynesian war dances – including the Māori Haka, Tongan Sipi Tau and Samoan Siva Tau.
Below are some pictures of our students’ interpretations of Polynesian canoes and actions shots of the war dances they choreographed and performed in class.

Canteen News
SOS HELP PLEASE!!!
The canteen has reached an all-time low on volunteer helpers.
We have approximately 560 students enrolled at our school and only 9 parent volunteers in the canteen.
Please, if you can help one day a month between 9.30-2.20 it would make a huge difference! Please call the school to be put in touch with Marie, our canteen manager, to book a volunteer day in the canteen. After you gain experience, Marie is happy to give out a job reference for future job prospects.
Due to the shortage of volunteers, the canteen has changed a few items on the menu to reduce the work load on staff in the canteen. Our prices have not changed.
